My SOS Skincare Routine

It’s not very often that I whip around the word ‘ultimate’ and trust me when it comes to putting that word in a sentence with skincare, I honestly never thought I would put the two together. For Christmas, I decided to ask for some skincare products that I’ve been wanting to try for some time and since then I’ve never looked back since.

Over the past 4 months, my skin has improved drastically and I honestly think it’s down to nailing my skincare routine and selecting products that really benefit my skin and only using a selected amount of products that I know do the job, rather than having an excessive routine that doesn’t work for a long period of time.

I’ve never had skin that’s been perfect, however, I’ve never had skin that’s been seriously awful. I struggled with cystic under the skin spots as a teenager, which resulted in some spot scaring around my chin, which luckily I can hide with makeup.  I also struggle with my pores and balancing out the oils in my skin, therefore a lot of the products that I use are oriented around fighting blemishes and oils. I’ve always found it so hard to have a skincare routine that really worked for me and drastically impacted my skin almost instantly. So here’s my SOS skincare routine, for those times you just need your skin to behave – Because it’s honestly was though your skin knows when you have plans, isn’t it?

STEP 1: WASH

Face wash is the one skincare product that I do switch up quite often, in all honestly I think they all do the same thing and that’s clean your face, So as long as the product does that, I’m happy! Recently I’ve been using the Elemis Superfood Facial Wash and really been enjoying it. I’m interested by Elemis’ entire Superfood range in general, the range is formulated with plant-based and nutrient filled superfoods that help to relish the skin with vital nourishment. The face wash doesn’t leave my skin feeling right or dehydrated, it leaves it almost glowing and replenished.

STEP 2: TONER

Toner is my favourite part of my skincare routine, I’ve tried so many toners that I adore, such as the Lix Earle Skin Boost Tonic and the Pixi Glow Tonic, however, over Christmas I was treated to the Sunday Riley Martian Melting Water-Gel Toner, although it’s got a hefty price tag, this is the best toner I’ve ever used. It really helps to combat the oils in my skin and leaves my skin feeling noticeably matte. i’ve also noticed that reduction in spots since using this product over the past couple of months. A little goes a long way and I simply pop a pump onto a cotton pad and massage it into my skin.

STEP 3: ACIDS & EMULSIONS

Acids and Emulsions are new to my skincare routine, however, I don’t think I could ever go back to not using them as I’m hooked. I always thought that Acids would be to harsh on my sensitive skin, however, they’ve actually made my skin less sensitive if I’m honest. I start with Alpha-H Liquid Gold which is so worth the hype. It’s actually classed as a serum but it looks and acts like an acid basically. Since using this, the condition of my skin has changed drastically. I hardly ever get spots (apart from the occasional hormonal or stress spot) and the redness of my skin has noticeably reduced. It’s classed as a ‘sleep in’ liquid peel, which dramatically revitalises dulled, ageing skin that’s lost its lustre, whilst gradually lessening the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, blackheads, blemishes, pigmentation, scarring and redness. In fact, there’s virtually nothing this skin care miracle can’t accomplish!

I then move onto my Salicylic Acid and Niacinimide from The Ordinary. The Salicylic acid is the newest acid to my collection, however, it works so well with my trusted Niacinamide (I’m on my second bottle of Niacinamine, that’s how much I love it) The Salicylic acid helps exfoliate the inside walls of pores to fight the appearance of blemishes and for better visible skin clarity with continued use. I have definitely seen a difference within my pores since using and the small blemishes I had on my chin from spot scaring have became less red and noticeable, although they are still there.  The Niacinamide solution is a blemish formula that reduces the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion within your pores. Since using this I’ve found that the amount of black heads on my nose have reduced and my skin just looks less congested, red and blemish ridden. It’s hard to explain in all honesty, but my skin just feels a lot freshers, there’s just generally less oils and issues.

STEP 4: MOISTURISE

Despite having oily skin, no matter what your skin type may be it’s so important to moisturise and add any hydration back into your skin. After all, you want your skin to look healthy and plump, right? I’ve been using the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair cream since September and I’ve finally found a moisturiser that hydrates my skin without leaving it feeling more oily.  You can use the cream all over your body, which is a perfect factor for when you’re traveling and want a cream that can multitask. The cream aids in the repair of the skin, so if you have any insanely dry areas, or even suffer with Ezma, the repair cream can be used to treat it. I do love a skincare product with many benefits!

STEP 5: FIGHT THE BLEMISHES

Although the above routine has reduced the amount of spots and blemishes that I do have, I’m human and getting breakouts is completely normal so when I do get them I have a handy lotion that really does make a difference. The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is probably the only spot lotion that I’ve used and noticed the different the next day. You don’t mix the pink stuff (super technical as always, obviously) and the clear stuff together, you simply inject a Q-tip right to the bottom of the bottle and then dot the product directly onto the blemish. I use it before bed and when I wake up, the spot is visibly less red and downsized dramatically.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, I love sharing skincare tips so much as I think confidence really does begin with how your skin looks and feels. So, if you have oily-combination skin and have any holy grail products that you swear by, let me know in the comments as I’m always up for trying out new skincare products!

Love,

I've been seeing a lot of people talk about the Alpha-H range and I'm interested in buying the liquid gold! I do generally believe there's nothing better than getting a good skincare routine down and relying on just a few amazing products! I suffer with eczema and I'm interested in the moisturiser you mentioned! X
