It feels like it’s been SO long since I last posted a beauty blog post. I feel like recently I just haven’t been feeling myself. Although I’ve felt like that for pretty much 21 years, sometimes you cannot let those evil thoughts consume you. So, with that in mind, I’ve treated myself to some new makeup bits to get me feeling a little excited about getting ready in the morning and perhaps that will make me feel a little better about the way I look – I mean, we all have times when we’re just not feeling ourselves, a bit of retail therapy never did anyone any harm!
Usually when I go all ‘Treat Yo’ Self’ (high five if you know what TV show that reference is from) I opt for high-end beauty products or just completely stalk ASOS and Topshop for days until the perfect item pops up! However, this time I’ve stuck mostly to high street/drugstore makeup and I’ve got to say, I’m pleasantly surprised by these products. So, let’s get into it!
Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipsticks
It’s been such a long time since I’ve picked up a Maybelline lipstick. I always forgot how amazing their selection of lipsticks actually is. I love their entire Colour Sensational lipstick range, particularly the matte finish – I’m such a sucker for a matte lip, so I picked up another 2 of their matte formula! I picked up “Clay Crush” (middle) and “Smokey Rose” (right) and they’re such beautiful pigmented matte colours. The Colour Sensational Matte lipstick formula is insane, the texture is very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks. They have the matte finish, however, they’re still really creamy and comfortable to wear.
I also picked up a shade from the original Colour Sensational range, I picked up the shade “Honey Beige” (left) which is what it says on the tin really, it’s a beige/nude lipstick however it has more of a sheen to it than the matte formula. I thought this would be nice to wear on a day-to-day basis when I’m not really feeling high maintenance and I can’t be bothered with the hassle of a matte lipstick – I’m a great beauty blogger aren’t I. But we surely we all have those days when we want to look nice, but just don’t have the energy or the time to ‘beat the face’ or whatever the trendy YouTube saying is now days, clearly I’m the Grandma of the beauty world.
Revolution Strobe Highlighter | Moon Glow
Believe it or not, this is actually my first purchase from Revolution. I feel as even though I’ve only really heard good things about the products and how cheap they are makes them so appealing, I’ve just never been particularly drawn to their concession at my local Superdrug. However the other week I thought it was about time I jumped on the bandwagon and see if they’re actually worth the hype. I feel as though their highlighters are what I hear about the most, so I picked up one of their strobe highlighters in the shade ‘Moon Glow’. It’s a really beautiful cool toned beige highlighter that goes really well with my skin tone. They’re surprisingly soft and I’ve been finding myself staring at the glow payoff pretty much whenever I catch myself in the mirror. Sounds vain, I know, however, it’s not myself I’m admiring, it’s the highlighter!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder | Diffused Light
Hourglass is a brand that I’ve been itching to try for SO long now. I’ve only heard good things about their products, however my lord are they pricey. I’ve been wanting their primer for months now, however I can’t quite deal with spending £50+ on a small primer bottle, nope, I am not readu for debt due to me purchasing a primer. However, the other day on the John Lewis website they had 20% off Hourglass, so I thought I’d treat myself to one of their Ambient Lighting Powders, as they’re basically the staple product within their range. I’ve not worn it too much yet, because I’m half wanting to save it for special occasions and half wanting to wear it 24/7 because it’s simply beautiful! So once I’ve tried it out more, there will be a proper review. But so far so good!
Urban Decay Naked Concealer | Fair Neutral
This little bottle of heaven is a re-purchase because I don’t think I can live without it (slightly dramatic, I know!) I put off purchasing this concealer for so long because I was head-over-heals in love with the Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer and although I still adore that concealer, the Urban Decay concealer works well under my eyes as well as on any spots or blemishes. Whereas the Nars one does have a radiance to it, therefore it doesn’t really work well anywhere else other than under the eyes. If you’re wanting a concealer that pretty much does it all, the Naked concealer is one you seriously need to consider!
