Now that it’s December and the magical day looms and uni deadlines grow closer, it’s important to take a little time to de-stress and de-clutter your mind. I am a self confessed stress head, I mean I spend pretty much all my time worrying about things and wanting to do everything to the best of my ability, whether that be finding the perfect gift for someone or acing an essay – I can really put a lot of strain on myself at times.
However I’m learning to have more ‘me’ time. More time for my brain to just switch off for a few hours and just enjoy the little things, whether it be a good old chat with my mum or a movie night with my boyfriend, those evenings really make life feel worth while and make the stressful times just feel that little bit more blissful. So, I’m sure this is how the majority of you feel currently but here’s how I give a little time up for myself…
STEP 1 : GET COSY!
There’s genuinely nothing I love more than a snuggly pair of pyjamas (okay, maybe pizza..) however I find it so comforting coming up from a long & stressful day and just popping on something more comfortable and just having a little bit of laptop time and listening to some music so that I can truly unwind. Now that it’s finally December, it means that It’s totally appropriate to listen to Christmas music, I find the chimes of classic Christmas songs really comforting actually, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Dean Martin or Bing Crosby when it comes to Christmas songs now can you?
STEP TWO : WASH YOUR TROUBLES AWAY
No ‘me’ time is truly complete without a good old skin care routine now is it? For those stressful times I really like to intensify my skin care routine and ensure that my skin is getting the love that it needs, even though I’m eating my feelings and scoffing down the biscuits with no hesitation. I like to do my usual cleanse, exfoliate, tone & moisturise however intensify it a bit by adding a de-tox facemark into the mix that truly uplifts my skin and gets rid of any dirt and clears out my pores like a dream!
A SPEEDY SKIN CARE ROUTINE
STEP ONE: CLEANSE
The world is only truly put to right when my makeup is off and the skincare is out. For the past 2 years I’ve used nothing other than the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser to remove my makeup and cleanse my skin. It’s so gentle and really does get all of the makeup off of my skin without having to scrub my skin until it’s sore. I find it really soothing and there’s not a day that goes by were I won’t use it! You basically rub it onto your face of makeup and it sort of begins to break the makeup down, then you simply get a hot muslim cloth and gently rub the makeup off of your skin and as if my magic, you’re makeup free!
STEP TWO : EXFOLIATE
Exfoliating isn’t something I do on a daily basis. I exfoliate 1-2 times a week as I find that it can be quite harsh on my skin and leave it feeling red and raw. However the Dermologica Gentle Exfoliator is perfect for daily use if you’re like me and suffer with sensitive skin. It leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed more as though it’s been well washed rather then exfoliated with harsh exfoliating particles like most exfoliators.
STEP THREE : DE-TOX FACE MASK
The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal mask is relatively new in my life however OMG it’s incredible! You can really feel it working, it almost get’s colder on your skin and tingles a little bit. However it’s almost as thought you can feel your pores being unclogged. You leave it on for 10 minutes and when you wash it off your left with SUPER soft skin and it just generally looks like you’ve been gifted a fresh set of skin – It’s amazing!
STEP FOUR : TONE & HYDRATE
Now that your pores are clean and you’re skin is looking better than ever. You want to close up them pores and hydrate your skin. These two Liz Earle products are the dream team if you have oil skin! I simply pop some of Instant Skin Boost Tonic onto a cotton pad and wipe it across my face. The product is SO soothing, especially after a face mask when you’re skin has really been hard at work. Toners close your pores therefore you won’t being going back on yourself and having them clogged up anytime soon!
I then hydrate my skin with the Skin Repair Light Moisturiser. I personally prefer a light moisturiser as with my skin being oily, I don’t want to over do it with the product and end up adding oils to my skin, I want something that is easy for my skin to absorb and that will actually benefit the areas that are a little dry. This bad boy does the trick perfectly. I can wear it before I apply makeup and it dries completely matte however still continues to hydrate my skin,
AND FINALLY, BREATHE
Now that all the hard work is done, just take a little time to yourself. Whether you’re leisurely browsing the internet, watching youtube videos or even looking a memes to cheer yourself up, let yourself do it. Even if you’ve got 101 things going on, I can’t stress how important it is just to take a little breather from it all. The things you’re stressing about are soon to be forgotten and they’re probably not as important and as crucial as you feel.
