Not going to lie, my make-up area is an area that I spend a large percentage of my time sat at! I mean, it takes time (a-lot of time may I add) to look somewhat presentable to the world, either though I’m a sucker for slapping on a touch of concealer and a dash of mascara on a day-to-say basis, there’s nothing better than having a nice little set up to sit at when I am endeavouring on a full face of make-up! My make-up desk is an element to my room that I’m still striving to perfect, however at this point in time I am the happiest I’ve been with the area so far! So I thought why not share it and potentially give you some room inspiration, or perhaps you can give me some also!
As you can probably tell, I am quite a fan of the whole ‘shabby chic’ vibes, I find that interior style quite homely and I think it suits my personality in the sense that I am a bit of a magpie and I tend to collect and keep a lot of random things for here, there and everywhere and I think that shabby chic is the true epitome of that – The more things look a bit odd, rustic and collected the better really! However I like to mix the shabby chic up and make it a little bit more modern, by adding a few items with that ‘minimalistic edge’ – Yep, I hate myself for saying that!
Copper is a theme that runs throughout my bedroom, if you read my interiors post on my work space, I do love a bit of copper! I think it adds a bit of a modern edge, however you can buy ‘antique’ style copper frames and wall clocks that keep in with the shabby chic theme!
BEST SHOPS FOR COLLECTING BITS & BOBS FOR YOUR ROOM
When it comes to finding the pieces that really personalise your room, I think it’s always a good idea to steer away from Ikea, although I’m a massive lover of Ikea I’m proud to say that not one item on my make-up area is from ikea, I thought i’d share some of my favourite furniture stores that I think are essential to check out when you’re wanting some truly individual, yet cheap items for wherever your decorating
1. Home Sense
I adore Home Sense, it’s a complete haven for me! Pretty much everything in there is a one off, so If you see something you like you’ve got no choice but to snap it up there and then! They sell everything from wall decorations, to cushion and throws and obviously no furniture store would truly when my heart over if they didn’t have a wide selection of mugs!
2. TK MAX
TK MAX is similar to Home Sense, in the way that most of the items there are a one off! I literally spend hours in the home section of TK MAX, their stationary range is also something to shout about! If you’re wanting some super cute and interesting props for your blogging photos then this is the place to go! I find that they change their stock quite often, so I’m in there at least every 2 weeks trying to scope out the new items!
3. Oliver Bonas
I fall head of heels in love with Oliver Bonas every time I go onto their website – Unfortunately they don’t have a store in Liverpool, however if they did I think I’d have no money whatsoever! My lovely make-up desk lamp is from Oliver Bonas and It’s my favourite item in my room! It’s copper, marble and a lovely shade of blue, what more could you ask for from a lamp? I love Oliver Bonas’ collection of picture frame and I have quite a few from there! So if you’re in the market for some snazzy decorative items, Oliver Bonas is the place for excellent quality and something a little bit different!
4. eBay & Second hand shops
Second hand shops and eBay are the places to hit up when you’re wanting to decorate on a budget, my make-up desk is actually an eBay find, I simply type in the description of something I want and usually there’s something on there second hand that costs next to nothing! A lot of furniture in my room is actually second hand, when I purchase the furniture it’s usually a dark wood and looks pretty outdated, however I give it a good sanding and a lick of French white paint and you’re good to go, shabby chic furniture is such an easy DIY if you’re really wanting to have a one of a kind piece!
I hope that you enjoyed this post and it’s maybe given you some ideas on how to create a comfortable make-up area for you to truly enjoy! If you have any stores you think I might be interested in then feel free to let me know so I can obviously check them out and spend money that I shouldn’t really be spending, sorry not sorry!
