MY MORNING SKIN CARE ROUTINE
Skin care is inevitably something that over the past few years I’ve began to get into more and more! I think that taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do in terms of beauty! You’re only ever going to have the skin that you’re currently in, your skin is a working organ and you should look after it just as much as you’d look after your health!
Today’s post is a little collar post with the lovely Megan McCoig from lifewithmcm.com! Both of us have sensitive, oily to combination skin, so we’re each going to share own skin routines! Mine is going to be my morning routine and the products I enjoy using to wake up and energise my skin and Megan is going to share her evening routine and how she likes to look after her skin after a long day out and about! STEP 1 – WAKE YOUR SKIN UP!
First and for most, I like to clean my skin and make it feel alive! I use the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap which is perfect for cleaning your skin of any oils or residue from moisturising creams or night creams that you may have used the night before! It also helps in removing any excess oils from the skin and this specific facial soap is catered for oily skin, so your skin feels fresh and free of any oils after use! I simply pat my face with a warm flannel and then pop a finger tip sized amount onto my fingers and then massage it into my skin, the soap foams up so you don’t really need too much. I then simply wash it off with some hot water and my skin is left feeling revitalised!
The next product depends on how much time I have on my hands, this is a little step that I like to add in on my days off of work, when I’m feeling tired and lifeless but I’ve still got stuff to do! I use the Origins GinZings Facemark, I love this face mask as it really does make my skin feel lifted and fresh! I usually pop this on whilst i’m making my cup of tea or deciding on my outfit for the day and wash it off with a hot cloth after about 5-10 minutes and my skin feels so awake! Face masks like this are just such a treat for your skin every no and again, especially when they leave your skin feeling as great as this one does!
STEP 2 – EXFOLIATE!
This next step is something that I do about 2-3 times a week, or notably more when my skin is really dry and I want to help shift the dead skin (the sounds vile, but that’s the truth, Ruth!) I use my Magnitone Exfoliating Face Brush this basically buffs my skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth and free of any dead skin! I use this with the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant, due to having sensitive skin, sometimes exfoliators can really irritate my skin, however this one is really gentle, yet it still does the job just as well as any other exfoliator! It isn’t overly grainy, which I think why it works for my sensitive skin so well, whereas some exfoliators I’ve used in the past have almost felt as though I’m rubbing sand paper into my skin – Which isn’t a something you want early in the morning! The Magnitone Face Brush basically vibrates as well as very switching from left to right very rapidly, so it has the effect of a buffer, rather than a fully rotating face brush that may feel overly harsh on your skin! It also has 2 settings, I use the second setting as this setting works better for sensitive skin as it adds a little less pressure!
STEP 3 – PREP YOUR SKIN FOR THE DAY
This is the step in which I prep my skin for the day! By that I mean controlling any of the issues that I have with my skin for as long as possible! As I have oily to combination skin, I don’t want my skin to become overly oily throughout the day, as when you apply makeup over oily skin, it just won’t last as long! Oily skin is also prone to a lot more spots and blemishes as dry skin, as oiliness is essentially excess moisture and oils within your skin! After washing and exfoliating, I simply add a small amount of Murad Blemish Clearing Solution, this is basically a serum like cream that just helps keep any blemishes at bay as well as preventing them! Since I’ve started using this product, the amount of spots that I get has rapidly decreased, which is amazing! I’ve also found that the redness on my cheeks and around my nose appears a lot more settled when I’ve used this!
Once the solution as been absorbed into my skin, I simply pop a pea size amount of the Murad Oil Control Mattifier onto the areas that become oily throughout the day, so my forehead and my chin and around my nose. This just helps to further insure that I’m not doing to have to powder throughout the day or worry about my face looking shiny! I absolutely adore Murad products, I’m forever buying the travel kits and purchasing their face washes as they have such an amazing range for any skin type and I’ve never experienced any of their ranges irritating my skin or breaking me out which is always a good thing to know if this is something you suffer with!
STEP 4 – HYDRATE YOUR SKIN
Although I have oily skin, during the winter it can become relatively dry and painful due to the cold winter winds drying out my face. I’ve been moisturising pretty much constantly to try and settle my skin, it just gets so sore and irritated when it’s dry during this time of year! I’ve been using the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, both morning and night! As it’s an intense repair moisturiser, I’ve been using a very small amount of a morning and simply dabbing it into the areas that are excessively dry, just so when I do apply my makeup, there isn’t that issue of my makeup sticking to the dry areas, especially considering that the majority of my foundations are matte or formulated without any oils.
If my skin is really dry and I have nothing planned, or I simply have a decent amount of time to get ready, I used the Nuxe Soothing and Rehydrating Fresh Mask which basically de-thirsts my skin and makes it appear hydrated and smooth as a peach! Every time I use this mask, I just sit there for a few seconds and stroke my face because it just leaves it feeling so hydrated and smooth! It’s not overly moisturising were my skin is left feeling oily and with that strange residue that some moisturising face masks can leave, it just leaves my skin feeling plump and ready for the day!
